The Legal Advisor of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB) is responsible for dealing with various legal matters. These stretch from the negotiation and drawing up of FVB's contracts, to the enforcement of liability claims (e.g. in case of faulty scientific equipment), to questions about the law of association and subsidy law to European Law.

The staff member in the Patent Office is responsible for the administration and co-ordination of the protection rights of the FVB. Her tasks include processing incoming registration of inventions, the co-ordination of usage and the assignment of a patent lawyer for the preparation of registering a patent. She monitors the deadlines and payments of annual fees and co-ordinates communication between the patent lawyers and the institutes. The FVB has a comprehensive database at its disposal as an information and monitoring tool, which is updated daily.

The EU Office at the joint administration of the FVB gives advice and support to all FVB Scientist that are interested in European research, particularly within the 7th Research Framework Programme.
