FVB’s ambition is to steadily and sustainably raise the percentage of women in specialist and executive positions in technical and scientific areas. To achieve this, entry and promotion conditions for women must be improved, as well as the targeted professional development of female staff.

In order to foster an inclusive and welcoming working environment, FVB organizes various activities to enhance the visibility of women in science and to raise awareness of gender inequality and unconscious bias. FVB supports the reconciliation of family and work, taking into account all employees’ family commitments.

Aims and measures can be found in the Gender Equality Plan of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (2020-2025).

The individual institutes have taken a number of initiatives, including flexible working hours based on internal flexitime agreements, individual agreements on part-time work due to family circumstances, the creation of a children’s or family room, the provision of a quota for emergency childcare, and measures against sexual harassment.

Details are laid down in the Gender Equality Plans of the institutes. Each institute has developed its own plan according to its structure in order to better tackle the different equality aspects as well as to further promote a more equal and inclusive working environment. Further information can be found on the websites of the institutes.

Since 2001, the Forschungsverbund Berlin has awarded the Marthe Vogt Prize to a young femals scientist who has written an outstanding PhD.

In the Marthe Vogt Podcast, female doctoral students, postdocs, and junior researchers of FVB share stories about their journey to science, their motivations, hardest challenges, biggest achievements, and their life beyond scientific research.

An issue of the FVB's Verbundjournal in 2021 also focused on "Women in Science".
