Cooperation

Below you will find information about activities undertaken by the Forschungsverbund Berlin (FVB) in cooperation with partners from universities, research institutions and industrial enterprises. Activities include involvement in Collaborative Research Centers, Priority Programs and Research Units funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG); participation in graduate research schools, Leibniz research alliances and networks; as well as labs operated jointly with universities.

Projects and networks funded by the European Commission can be found here.

The aim of a joint initiative undertaken by Berlin’s non-university research institutions is to strengthen the capital’s role as an international science hub. They have joined forces to create BR50 (Berlin Research 50). One of the two offices is located at the Forschungsverbund Berlin in Adlershof.

FVB is part of a wide range of national and international networks and initiatives. It has particularly close links to universities. Not only FVB institute directors but also many senior researchers hold chairs at universities. Currently around 40 professors have been jointly appointed with Berlin’s universities – Technische Universität Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Charité – as well as with the University of Potsdam and Goethe University Frankfurt. In addition to teaching at the above institutions, FVB scientists also lecture at over 20 other universities in Germany and abroad. FVB has around 1,601 employees (as of 31 December 2021), including Bachelor and Master students, degree candidates, doctoral students and visiting researchers.

Here is a list of the DFG Collaborative Research Centers, Priority Programs and Research Units in which FVB is involved.

Here you can find out about graduate research schools and research training groups in which FVB is involved.

The joint labs in which FVB institutes are involved are listed below.

The Leibniz Competence Center for Procurement (LKCB) was launched at the Forschungsverbund Berlin on October 1, 2020. LKCB, created as an initiative of the Leibniz Headquarters and several Leibniz institutes, is the first joint cooperative center in the area of administration within the Leibniz Association. The intention is for LKCB to pool joint procurements within the Leibniz Association and to tender framework agreements on a national basis. The objective is to obtain better purchasing conditions for all institutes, to draw on synergies, and to advise individual institutes with regard to demanding EU tenders.

FVB is also involved in numerous other networks and initiatives, which are listed here.
