On September 11th, Dr. Frank Göritz, scientist and Head Veterinarian received the “Vier Pfoten Tierschutzpreis” in Vienna.
Frank Göritz from the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) received this award as great appreciation for his expertise in the field of veterinary medicine, as well as, for his outstanding achievements and tireless commitment to international animal welfare. In his countless, often very challenging missions he has demonstrated his high professional expertise. In the field of animal welfare his interventions made him internationally very well known. One of his recent successes was the animal relocation of the Khan Younis Zoo in the Gaza Strip.
The international animal welfare group “Four Paws” awarded the “Vier Pfoten Tierschutzpreis” for the first time. The award honors the exceptional commitment in the field of animal welfare.
The award ceremony was accompanied by greetings from Harald Schwammer, Deputy Director of Tiergarten Schönbrunn, and Helmut Pechlaner, former Director of Tiergarten Schönbrunn and honorary president of WWF-Austria. The prize was award by the Four Paws founder and the foundation’s President Heli Dungler.
Göritz conducts research in the Department of Reproduction Management at the German Leibniz IZW. His work is an important and sustainable contribution to an evidence-based conservation and he advocates for highly endangered wildlife species.
