We also celebrated major successes: Volker Haucke and Fan Liu from the FMP as well as Jochen Mikosch from the MBI were awarded ERC grants. Many other researchers also gained awards, including IGB’s Robert Arlinghaus, winner of the Communicator Award, and FMP’s Christian Hackenberger, who received the “Breakthrough of the Year” award at the Falling Walls conference. FVB co-initiated the foundation of Berlin Research 50 (BR50), the new alliance of non-university institutions in Berlin. We welcomed Luc De Meester as the new Director of IGB. But we also had to say our goodbyes – FBH left FVB on January 1, 2021.
